Global Warming: A Good News

Our discussion on climate change have always been lopsided. There are abundant evidences of its negative outcomes , but any claim of positives is overlooked. In aggregate, Climate change has yielded more benefits than harm so far and expected to stay positive until 2080. Then, I wasn’t aware why I used to get ridiculed upon making this unusual climate claim on public. Later I realized, those people has been systematically blinded from multi-dimensional opinion regarding Climate change and Global warming.

‘A bad news is good news’ , which is why the popular media pay no heed to scientific researches showing net benefits of global warming. Instead they keep fueling one sided threat on public with issues like, melting Himalayas, carbon emission and death from heat waves.

Couple of year ago, the biggest study of heat and cold death- published in British Journal “The Lancet” examines 74 million death in 13 countries. The researchers found that 5.4 million deaths were caused by cold, whereas heat takes 311,000 lives. Similarly another study published in the journal Nature Climate Change by a team of 32 authors from 24 institutions in eight nations reveled that, from a quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over last three decade due to rising levels of CO2 and — by the end of the century, probably global biomass will have increased more than ever.

According to researchers, climate models failed to spot one fact that when carbon dioxide increases in the atmosphere, plants flourish well, and are able to absorb more CO2. Besides, the old model not only, over-predict the amount of carbon in the atmosphere by about 17%, but also underestimated the amount of CO2 being absorbed by plants.

The utmost advantage of climate change occurs from carbon-dioxide itself. It’s not a toxic waste but the raw material for photosynthesis through which plant emits oxygen. As we know that carbon dioxide is particularly rare trace gas in atmosphere — not more than 0.04 per cent of the air on average — and green plants absorb enough of it.

Similarly, it’s well-known fact that winter deaths exceed over summer deaths — not just in parts of cold England but also in warm cities of Greece. Evidently, both nation witness mortality rates increase by 18 % each winter. One Study conducted by Environmental Health Perspective (EPH) on “Heat- and Cold-Related Mortality in the United Kingdom and Australia” shows that heat causes 1,500 death annually compared to 32,000 by cold . Respectively , by the 2080s, heat rate mortality is projected to reach 5,000 people in a comparable population. But ‘cold deaths’ is likely to drop by 10,000, indicating 6,500 few death altogether. Whilst, Climate alarmist often, predict threatening rate of possible death by hot waves. What they seldom predict is the far more greater rate of life saved from cold waves.

My point is, media has long sustained attention-grabbing negative news about global warming. Now, they must give ground to positive side of it to counterbalance the preponderance of fear and depression among public.
